The Lobster Ponds Haven in Flowerdale the only place in Australia where giant Tasmanian freshwater lobsters are kept and have been successfully bred. Some are more than 20 years old.

 

Take a guided or self-guided tour around the indoor tanks and outdoor ponds as you walk through rare Tasmanian flora, see critically endangered native birds, and enjoy valley views worth the detour.

Lobster Ponds Haven is a conservation sanctuary run by passionate volunteers

Walk through lobster ponds with King Billy pines and Huon pines. 

 

See critically endangered orange-bellied parrots and swift parrots alongside stunning native finches.

Walk around an incredible aviary housing critically endangered species like Orange-bellied Parrots and Swift Parrots, plus breathtaking finches: Diamond Firetails, Gouldian Finches, Painted Firetails, and more.

How It Works

Choose a guided tour or wander at your own pace. 

 

Seeing everything takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on how long you like to wander.

Grab a coffee and a scone at the cafe before or after — or simply come for lunch with a view.

  • Self-guided or volunteer-guided tours (~20 minutes long)

  • Gift shop with local art and products

  • Accessible for all ages, abilities and fitness levels
